When I visited Woeser’s blog today….it had been hacked, yet again. But this time there was a picture of the People’s Republic of China flag and a slogan which read “Long Live the People’s Republic of China! Down With Tibet!” Other offensive things were written in doggerel English, but perhaps it was doggerel because of the translator I was using.

I instantly thought of my home, America. And the stories and accounts I have read through the years about the virulent racism that used to be so widespread here. How the blacks were denounced and attacked for simply standing up to be treated with dignity and respect. How the Native nations were attacked and invaded, with their civilian populations deliberately targeted for slaughter so that the settlers could push and expand the American frontier. And how this slaughter is now whitewashed and taught as a tragic conflict between peoples. Tragic conflict? Are you effing kidding me? If the settlers felt so bad about it, why didn’t they return to their own country then?

These are the thoughts provoked whenever I now see Chinese Anti-Tibetanism rear its head. Some Chinese people are Han Supremacist racists, akin to Hitler and his “Aryan Supremacy.” Some Chinese people think that Tibet is simply China and don’t understand what the Tibetans are going on about. If you are Chinese, and not one of these sorts, then this is not for you. This is for the racists and uber-nationalists who think that Chinese culture is supreme. This is for you if you think that Tibet should disappear or become Chinese.

Have you no shame?

You claim to know how wrong it was when the Europeans forced your ancestors to bow. Yet you ignore what your own nation is doing to the countries it has claimed and then invaded. When you say “Down with Tibet” or “Kill all Tibetans,” you are displaying your true colors, not one of them human at all.

Tibetans wouldn’t be learning to hate you now, if you would: simply leave them alone, stop lying about them, and respect their dignity.

I know it goads you to no end to know that Tibetans think that they have a culture just as old and just as developed as yours. But this is true, despite what you have been taught in school.

I see you Chinese people today in a wealthy nation that is now a superpower, with its hand in every world conflict as much as the USA. You have rising standards of living, (brought about by Western technological know-how and ideologies, by the way), and your nation is the most populated on earth. And yet you still find it in you to feel threatened by one of the so-called ‘minority peoples’ that are currently under your government’s control.

When I hear your views about Tibetans and their culture, how you denigrate them and deny their values, it reminds me of American racist accounts of the Native nations. The only real reason you hate Tibetans is because you cannot live with yourselves and what your nation has done to Tibet. You hate this look into the mirror and you thought the Olympics and now the Great Earthquake would make the world forget.

Now people like the Dalai Lama are saying things like the events since this March have been akin to a tragic misunderstanding. Are you effing kidding me? Again? Tibetans inside of Tibet do not misunderstand one bit their effort for survival against a people that not only has conquered them but has also attempted to erase history to try to show the world that it was not a conquest but a reunion.

Chinese racial supremacism is just as stupid as Nazi racism. And just as dangerous to not only Tibetans, who now bear the full brunt of it, but to the world. If cooler heads in China do not prevail, there will very well be more and more bloodshed. But as time goes on, it will be more and more Chinese suffering from that bloodshed as more Tibetans realize that China will never treat them humanely. I believe they are fed up now. Fed up with the lies, with the empty promises, and with even the westerners who are trying to convince them to be quiet now.

Have you no shame? When you call Tibetan people dogs unfit for life, or when you say that their culture will be preserved in museums for Chinese people. Do you realize what you are saying? The hatred you spew out, all the while crying about the 21 or so people you say were killed in Lhasa by “rioters,” knowing full well that your police and soldiers went on an orgy of shooting and beating against Tibetans for days. Day after sickening day.

If you don’t want any more “riots,” then leave Tibet and start perhaps treating them as true equals with respect and dignity. Otherwise, you paint yourself just as black as the nightmare of the Holocaust.
