Posted: April 14th, 2008, by MeYuL.com
14th April, 2008 For Immediate Release, Tibetan Solidarity Committee.Notwithstanding China’s merciless suppression with extreme use of violence on the Tibetan demonstrators, yet another peaceful demonstration took place in Markham District this morning. However, no further details are available. Similarly, few days ago when the Chinese Government imposed so-called patriotic re-education campaign at Woser Monastery in Markham, a group of monks left the monastery in disagreement with the Chinese campaign.
On April 10th evening, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) sent additional armies and work teams in an attempt to forcefully impose the so-called patriotic re-education campaign at Drepung Monastery in Lhasa. However, the campaign work teams met with protest by monks and consequently, on either 11th or 12th of April, many monks were arrested. Due to China’s blockade of food supplies in Drepung monasteries and others in over a month now, many monks were left starved inside. When the monks came out in their desolate state, as starvation was inevitable, the Chinese armies blocked their movements while injuring many monks. No further details are available.
In addition, the Chinese government has been deliberately creating discords between Tibetans and Chinese to escalate conflict. Furthermore, Chinese authorities at immediate local levels have supported Chinese to provoke further hatred against local Tibetans. As a result, Chinese are relentlessly mistreating Tibetans. For instance, Chinese students are beating Tibetan students in various areas of Tibet, particularly in Lhasa. The Chinese vendors are purposely raising the prices of goods for Tibetans and even as Chinese bicycle repairers refuse to fix their Tibetan customer’s bicycle. These are the few examples of Chinese mistreatment of innocent TibetansIn view of the critical situation in Tibet, we appeal the UN and international community of the urgent consideration of our following demands:
- Immediately dispatch independent fact finding delegations to Tibet
- Immediately allow free press to cover the whole of Tibet
- Immediately end the brutal killings in the whole of Tibet
- Immediately release all arrested and imprisoned Tibetans
- Extend immediate medical assistance to the injured Tibetans
- Allow free movement of people and provide access to daily needs
