New Delhi, April 11: Hundreds of Indian children along with their Tibetan counterparts on Friday held a rally in the capital to protest against alleged human rights violations in Tibet. Terming the march as ‘Fight for Justice’, the children walked from Samta Sthal to Rajghat, the samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, where they prayed for peace in Tibet.

“We are protesting against Chinese atrocities and at the same time we are also demanding right to education for Tibetan children,” said Tseten Norbu, Member of the Assembly of Tibetan People.

“About 40 per cent of the children in Tibet have never been to school. Those who go are denied a chance to learn their mother tongue,” Norbu said.

He further alleged that human rights violations were rampant in Tibet and Tibetan children were “being killed for trivial reasons”.

“Even keeping pictures of the Dalai Lama can lead to their killing,” said Norbu. Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA), under whose banner the rally was organised, said children across the world should get their rights.

“We feel that each and every child across the globe should get his or her rights. We feel that our participation can create international pressure on China to provide Tibetan children their right to get quality education,” said Priti Joshi of the BBA.

“These (Tibetan) children comprise students studying in Lower KG to up to class five. We know marching in this heat is tough for them, but this rally is also a sort of awareness rally for them,” said Chonzom Dolma, a teacher at the Tibetan Day School in the capital.
