Thank you for Stephen Mburu’s article on the Dalai Lama ( SN, May 4, 2008). I was saddened to hear that two proposed visits to Kenya by the Dalai Lama had been refused, one as recently as last year.

People in Kenya could get much encouragement and inspiration by seeing and hearing in person this down-to-earth, compassionate, and quietly determined leader.

No matter your beliefs, he is a model by his campaign for self-determination and justice for his Tibetan people.

Nor does he try to tear down the Chinese people in the process. Kenyans facing similar struggles might well appreciate his visit.

And what a gift it would be to the Dalai Lama to meet the Kenyan people and see their beautiful country.
